Most important first · tap to expandBuying insurance through a lender is voluntary, with no link between the loan and the insurance; where cover is needed to protect the loan, you can take it from any insurer, including a term plan you already have. RBI's tighter rules for banks, NBFCs and housing finance companies start on 1 Jan 2027: no compulsory bundling, and explicit, separate consent before a premium is paid out of a loan. An individual policy can be returned within 30 days of receiving it; for a certificate under a group policy, ask the insurer how its free look works.
